AICS vs Ruby: AI receptionist or real people?
Ruby gives your firm friendly, live human receptionists. AI Canadian Solutions gives you an AI receptionist that answers every call and website chat, checks conflicts, books the consultation and keeps the client file. Here is the honest side-by-side.
Ruby gives you people. AICS gives you a whole intake system.
If you want a real person to answer every call, take payments and handle upset callers with a human touch, Ruby is one of the best-known services available, and it serves businesses across Canada. But human minutes are expensive: Ruby’s 200-minute plan is US$720 a month, and Ruby has no CRM, conflict check or client portal of its own. If you want every call and chat answered, checked for conflicts, booked into your calendar and saved in a Canadian system, AI Canadian Solutions does more for far less per minute.
Far more minutes for your money
Legal AI Receptionist Pro includes 400 phone minutes for C$349 a month. For about the same price, Ruby’s starter plan includes 50 minutes of receptionist time.
A conflict check before anything is booked
The AI checks the caller and the other party against your records during the call and declines politely if there is a conflict.
Booked, not just a message
It books the consultation into your Google or Outlook calendar, emails the client an invitation and files the new lead in your pipeline.
AICS vs Ruby: feature by feature
Ruby is a human service and AICS is AI, so some rows differ by design. Turn on "Show only the differences" to skip what both do.

AICS prices are our published Legal plans: Legal AI Receptionist Pro C$349/month with 400 phone minutes, and Legal AI Intake Elite C$749/month with 900 minutes (one-time setup C$950, 3-month minimum), each with a 15% buffer before overages. Ruby prices are from ruby.com/pricing in US dollars: 50 minutes US$250, 100 minutes US$395, 200 minutes US$720, 500 minutes US$1,725, and the 10-chat bundle at US$115. The calculator picks the smallest Ruby plan that covers your minutes, because Ruby does not publish its overage rate. Ruby rounds each call up to the full minute and counts hold and wrap-up time, so real Ruby usage is usually higher than shown. Checked November 1, 2026. Taxes not included.
What happens when a new client calls
With Ruby, a trained person takes the call and passes the details on to you or your CRM. With AICS, the AI takes the call and finishes the paperwork too.
- The AI answers in your firm’s name. On the first ring, day or night, with your greeting.
- It works out who is calling. New client, existing client, court staff or another lawyer. Known callers are recognised by their number.
- It asks your intake questions. Name, phone and email (spelled back), the type of matter and the key facts, in a natural conversation.
- It runs a conflict check. The caller and the other party are checked against your records. If there is a conflict, it declines politely and books nothing.
- It books the consultation, or transfers the call. It offers open times from your calendar, or warm-transfers the caller to a lawyer when your rules say so. After hours, it takes a message.
- Your team gets the full file. The recording, transcript, summary and new lead land in your inbox and pipeline, and the client receives a calendar invitation.
Which one is right for your firm?
Both are good products. They are built for different firms.
Choose AI Canadian Solutions if…
- You want every call answered without paying more than US$3 a minute for receptionist time.
- You want calls, website chat, conflict checks, booking, CRM and client documents in one system.
- You want client records stored in Canada and billing in Canadian dollars.
- Most of your calls are routine intake, booking and messages, which AI handles well.
- You want to follow up with opted-in clients by AI call, text and email.
Ruby may suit you better if…
- You want a real person on every call, especially for upset or vulnerable callers.
- Many of your callers need Spanish on the phone.
- You want receptionists to take payments over the phone.
- You get few, short calls and already have a CRM you like.
- You want a long-established service with a large base of reviews.
Switching from Ruby
You can keep your phone number and run both side by side while you test.
- Book a walkthrough. Bring your Ruby call-handling instructions and intake questions. We go through them with you.
- We set up your AI receptionist. Your greeting, practice areas, intake questions, transfer rules, office hours and the matters you do not take.
- Connect your calendar. Link Google or Outlook so the AI only offers times you are actually free.
- Test it yourself. Call as a new client, an existing client and someone with a conflict. Adjust anything you do not like.
- Point your number at it. Forward your current number, or let us move it from Bell, Rogers or another provider for you (usually 1 to 3 weeks; your current service keeps working until the move). Then change or cancel your Ruby plan under its terms.
